You may have seen lists of 100s of celebs who, "reportedly" died from lung or throat cancer, or smoking related diseases.
They claim that 100s of celebs have died from smoking, but when you look how they actually died, many of these claims seem a pack of lies!
These online lists often state that Heart Attacks and Strokes are as a result of smoking, when in fact these are more likely caused by poor diet, alcohol and a lack of exercise.
Many alcoholics who died from a related disease also get bumped in with the smokers to pump up the numbers. And then we have anyone who died of liver or kidney failure (also often alcohol related), and lung and throat diseases caused by other means; such as radiation and asbestos exposure.
Sometimes any celeb who died, who also happened to smoke, is also added to these lists - like Jack Benny, Bing Crosby or Bill Hicks - who smoked but didnt die from smoking. The classic example being Steve McQueen, who happened to smoke heavily, but this was not the cause of his death, yet he is a symbol for anti-smoking.
Lastly, we get the actual Lung Cancer victims, which are very often people who smoked at least 2 (up to 6) packs per day, and understandably seriously affected their bodies by doing so (or like Tallulah Bankhead, died from something else). People get all sorts of cancers for all kinds of reasons, even those who never smoked a cigarette in their lives.
The people who actually died from smoking correlate to those who smoked packs a day, and in these cases it is hardly surprising.

Work in progress. Most of the top names who died directly from smoking (way too many packs of cigs for too many years) are listed. The rest to add mostly smoked but did not have a related death.
