Smoking on Aeroplanes
Back in the 1980's, I used to enjoy flights to Spain, Greece, Canary Islands, and beyond. The planes used to have full air conditioning, so both smokers and non-smokers got a very clean and fresh flight experience. It was also fun to talk to smokers on a plane. Today they dont switch on the air-conditioning because they say it would be too expensive, and would affect ticket prices. Now we have to fly in stuffy germ boxes. It's not fair.I remember once we were flying back from Tenerife; which was quite a long flight. I sat by the window, with my mum in the middle seat, and another woman, perhaps in her 30's, was sat in the isle seat. She lit up an Yves Saint Laurent all-white Ritz, with a thick band around the filter. It looked really stylish and really wonderful between her lips as she read a newspaper, but the cigs smelled very strong, and she said they were too strong for her husband. The smell was making me feel queasy, but she seemed unaffected by it and smoked the whole cig through without any issues.

I remember those days as well. Now flying is a horrible experience in almost every way. I did get TSA pre-check, and this has been a moderate improvement to the air travel experience.

Smoking on planes went away in the 90's, which I hated, since I was a flight attendant until I retired in 2015

I still remember that day long ago when I was at the airport ticket counter. The woman who was working the counter was friendly and must have seen the cigarettes in my purse because she gave me a seat in the smoking section of the plane without me having to ask for it.That was one very smart airline employee.Such pleasant memories.
