(La Rose) 520 [Heart Filter, Flavoured] + Update

520

La Rose 520 is a Taiwanese brand of cigarettes manufactured by the Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation (TTL). The name 520 was chosen for the brand because it sounds similar to the words I Love You (我爱你; Wǒ ài nǐ)) when pronounced in Mandarin Chinese. It has a red heart-shaped engraved hole in its filter, which releases a distinct vanilla or mint flavor. 520 is only sold outside of Taiwan, as an Export product.

LaRose 520 Menthol (Pink Packs) (Mint flavor)
LaRose 520 VANILLA (Light Blue / White Packs) (Vanilla flavor)
Green 520 Supreme MENTHOL - Mint flavor
Gray 520 Supreme (SLIM Lights)
520 2-way Green (Double Menthol?)
520 2-way Purple (Menthol and Blueberry?)

UPDATE:

La Rose
520 Mint and Melon (Superslim)
520 Peach Flavour
520 New Menthol
520 Blueberry Flavour (Superslim)
520 Mint and Grape (Superslim)
520 Lychee Flavour (Superslim)

La Rose 520 - Vanilla - Review

Although I managed to find lots of images of the pink menthol pack online, for me it was easier to find the white vanilla packs to buy. Recently I found a contact who only deals in pink 520s, and have listed this source on the 'Buying Cigs, Is it Safe?' thread.

Although the pink pack is lovely, the white pack glitters, which catches the light and makes little rainbows run horizontally over the pack. This is very eye catching and makes the pack stand out. The 'white' packaging of these 100mm length vanilla flavoured cigs is actually light pastel blue colour, with a flowery image on the pack printed in gold (on the pink menthol pack it is pink).

The pack is refreshingly clear of advertising, and on the side we find the nicotine is 0.6, with 7mg tar, while on the pink pack they are 0.4mg nicotine and 5mg tar - so the menthol ones are lighter. There is also a flavour indictor on the side, with the vanilla having a stronger flavour than the menthol.

On the back is a logo of a rose, which is also printed on the lid, with the rest of the presentation the same design as the front of the pack.

The other difference I found with these two packs was a silver band on the package seal opener of the vanilla, but the seal opener was clear on the menthol pack.

Inside the vanilla we can smell a light vanilla flavour as we open the pack. Taking away the foil we find rows of very elegantly presented filters, with a heart shaped indented design. The filter itself is pinky red in colour, and does not go darker when smoking. The smoke does through the filter and then along the heart-shaped tube, where it is cooled before entering the mouth.

The smoke is quite light, and long time smokers may say they are too light to taste anything. To a casual smoker like myself, they tasted differently to how normal western tobacco tastes - with a subtle 'oriental' feeling. When the tobacco is fresh, it smokes very much like a milder version of Virginia based cigs we all know and love. If you leave the pack open a while, the tobacco begins to taste harsher, and as dust enters the pack, they lose their flavour, so these are definitely to be consumed frequently, and not left open for too long.

Puffing the cig does deliver a mild high, although again very subtle, and certainly not in the same league as smoking mild US manufactured cigs.

The taste is vanilla, although you wont feel like you are smoking a vanilla pod with these, it is noticeable, especially in the smell of the smoke - which is sweet and nice, and not at all lingering like many cigs.

The aftertaste and general feeling afterwards was quite uplifting for me, but as I say, being a casual smoker I found the experience went down the longer the pack was left open (i.e. closed, but the seal having been broken).

These were definitely worth a try for a little oriental feeling and smoke which smells nice and welcoming. The cigs are not hard to smoke thanks to some of the 100mm length taken up with the heart-shaped cooling tube, and this means the actual volume of tobacco per cig is about the same as a regular 84mm. The unique design also often brings a smile, and makes an especially exciting gift for a very special loved one.

I certainly enjoyed my time in the company of the beautiful La Rose 520.

Heyh when you ordered off of 179cm and up was it a pack or a carton taht you paid for? I just bought 2 and im assuming its a carton for 17 dollars instead of just a pack.

I received one pack. So you ordered 2 packs (40 cigs) not two cartons. The link on 179 and Up, as well as the ebay links on the "Safe?" thread, I provided for collectors. If you want cartons, 2-world.com will have them most likely, although you can expect to pay a whole lot more! I reviewed the white vanilla packs above, I have never tried the pink menthol packs, as I only have one.

Hi there

I was talking about the thread in Talking Smoking Culture called "Buying Online is it safe". I ordered from here, one single pack of menthol, and they arrived no problem. Full details on the Is It Safe thread.

Here is the buying link for the La Rose Menthol:

Note: I updated the images above with a few more.... :)
